HAS and TxDOT: Section 106 Consultation for Dimond Knoll

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has been conducting data recovery at Dimond Knoll on Cypress Creek, in advance of construction associated with the State Highway (SH) 99 (Grand Parkway Segment E) Project. The HAS is serving as a participatory party in the Section 106 Consultation process and has been invited to participate in the screening of back dirt from the excavation. Unfortunately, owing to the active construction zone of the activity with the constant presence of heavy machinery, HAS is screening off-site for this project.

We have also been invited to join TxDOT's Houston District Office to view the artifacts and attend a presentation of TxDOT findings. Presently, material remains from this site span the Paleoindian, Archaic, Woodland, and Late Prehistoric periods. A large number of projectile points and other tools have been excavated. We look forward to the completion of fieldwork and their laboratory analyses and in joining TxDOT in their presentation.

Please note that you MUST be a member of the Houston Archeological Society and complete the Membership Release and Waiver of Liability Form to take part in this project.
