Silent Auction

Buried Treasure? by Sue Gross, Silent Auction Coordinator

It is never too late to do spring cleaning to uncover buried treasures in your house, attic, library, office, etc. and bring them to the Silent Auction at the TAS Annual Meeting coming up October 23 – 25, 2015. We accept any art, crafts, jewelry, books, reports, eclectic merchandise, or anything smaller than an elephant, with everyone joining in the bidding wars to take home the best bargain of the day.  Items can be new, gently-used, or previous auction items (Hint - if you have already read the book from cover-to-cover and know that somebody else will enjoy it too).  It is very simple – either bring the items to the Annual Meeting or email Sue Gross suegbobs@comcast.net in advance to make arrangements. If you have a large amount of books or reports to donate, we would appreciate advance notice. Then prepare to bid on any new items to replace those that you are giving up, or if you need new reading material!

We will also be offering two vacation packages generously donated by Hyatt Corporatoin during our Silent Auction including:

hyatt kauai
A 3-day resort package at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa – YES, HAWAII !!!
Hyatt Austin
A  two night stay for two at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spar near Austin, including daily breakfast.

If you do not want to leave your beloved Texas. Here are just a few of the other special items that will be offered for bid in the Silent Auction.

Texian Campaigne
Texian Campaignware Transferware Plate – An archeologists dream, this plate is not your usual pristine museum example. This plate is a great example of one that got everyday use - not a piece that languished in the china cabinet used only on special occasions. You can only imagine the stories that were told around this plate. This plate is approx. 9¼” and is clearly marked “TEXIAN CAMPAIGNE” with the initials J B(James Beech) under the cartouche. It features the “Battle Of Chapultepec” scene (1847 General Taylor in Mexico). This plate is from the Thomas Walker era approximately 1844 to 1852, and is clearly marked J B.

Mary Stained Glass
Special Limited Edition & Autographed Washer Set. This year we offer a very special washer toss game set. This is a one-of-a-kind washer toss game set that has been autographed by the official purveyor of the washer toss game, Sir Elton Prewitt, himself and has been hand crafted by Steve Davis. The set is enclosed in a fine cedar box that includes a pair of specification cups, two sets of washers with spares, and comes with a laminated copy of the "Official Rules of Washers According to Elton Prewitt". The washers are matching sets by size and weight in accordance with the official rules of washers. One set is gun blued carbon steel and the other is 18-8 stainless steel. You will be proud to own and play with this set. Suggested starting bid: $45
